Wow! The NFL offseason hasn’t even officially begun and teams are already getting some business done.
It’s safe to say there probably won’t be a bigger trade deal than this completed in 2018. Ever since my Kansas City Chiefs gave up an 18 point lead to the Titans in the wildcard round of the playoffs Smith has been on borrowed time.
It was rumoured there were a number of teams interested but it appears that the Redskins was the most promising proposition for both Alex and the Chiefs,
So what did the Redskins give up to find their new trigger man? A third-round pick in this year’s draft and second-year cornerback Kendall Fuller. If you ask me the Chiefs just win this trade. Yes, they get the pick and a player but it is the $16M in cap room that makes the difference here. The Chiefs now have some money to play with, some much needed money considering all the holes in the Chiefs defence.
So if Alex Smith is the new Redskins QB then what now for Kirk Cousins? The free agent QB will have a number of suitors with plenty of cap room. Cousins now looks primed to become the highest paid player of all time.
If I had to put my money on a team, it would probably be the Broncos. A signing that will bring back memories of the great Peyton Manning signing of 2012.
