The winners and losers of Deadline Day

Another year, another January transfer window. Another month of Sky forcing Jim White on us. Another month of fluorescent yellow on our TV screens.

As ever Sky dramatised everything as much as they can. At one point they had Alan Smith trying to solve an emoji riddle sent from Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi’s Twitter account. Riveting stuff!

So who was the big winner’s on the most dramatic (or not) of days on the football calendar?

Winners

Mesut Ozil – It has been widely reported that Mesut Ozil has signed a 3 and half year £350,000 a week contract extension with Arsenal today. Not a transfer we know but how can we ignore a deal of that size?

Chelsea – After being denied Andy Carroll, Peter Crouch, Brian Deane and Mark Viduka, Chelsea somehow managed to buy the out of favour Arsenal hunk Olivier Giroud for the small price of just £18M. In today’s market that is a bargain for a striker that has scored over 100 goals for the Gunners. All Chelsea need to do now is release their own underwear range with Olivier as the model. I am sure the fee will be covered in pants sales alone. Maybe I should work in marketing?

Tottenham – Another sneaky good bargain here. Whilst their North London rivals were selling their best looking player and buying PEA from Dortmund, Spurs quietly went about their business securing the transfer of Lucas Moura from PSG. I have a feeling this will work out great for Spurs who desperately needed to find a way to give Son, Alli and Eriksen some time off.

Arsenal – Despite losing Sanchez, Giroud and Walcott this window the Arsenal attack is actually better off after capturing the signature of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabon international brings with him plenty of star power and can now rekindle a once fruitful relationship with Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Losers

Mishy Batshuayi – With Morata out injured you would have thought Conte would have turned to Mishy to lead the line for Chelsea in the next few weeks. Well, you would be wrong! Instead, Chelsea went after Olivier Giroud and shipped Batshuayi on his way to Dortmund. A loan deal for now but have we seen him in a Chelsea shirt for the final time?

Johnny Evans – I am not going to go into this too much but imagine being linked to Man City and Arsenal for an entire window, only to still be at West Brom at the end of it. Poor Johnny!
