Let’s be honest, the Superbowl is an extremely odd affair. I have been racking my brains for sometime now and I can’t think of a sporting event quite like it.
For starters, what other TV event commands a $5M fee for a 30 second commercial slot? And what other sporting event dedicates entire days to player and team interviews? Then you can throw in the fact that the game’s best player is awarded a car for his efforts. Mental.
There really isn’t anything quite like the Superbowl. And there certainly isn’t anything quite like the Superbowl halftime show.
The 15 to 20 minute performance can sometimes command more of an audience than the game itself. Often tipped as the biggest gig of a musician’s career you never know what to expect from this mid game extravaganza.
This year see’s the return of Justin Timberlake. The former N-Sync frontman is part responsible for the most famous of all Superbowl moments, when he ‘accidentally’ revealed Janet Jackson’s chest. Luckily for Janet she prepared for this kind of mishap by strategically placing something over her nipples.
So what can we expect this year? As a JT fan I am hoping he just doesn’t use the Superbowl to promote his new album, I want to hear the older hits. But to be honest the Superbowl half time show will start at 1.30am here in the UK so I will probably be too drunk to even care.
So here’s to an excellent Superbowl and an even better half time show.
And just-in case you was wondering you can get Janet Jackson making a guest appearance at 16/1.
