How they got there

2-1 playoff win vs Syria.

Best World Cup performance

Round of 16 – 2006

Group C matches

France vs Australia – 16th June, Kazan Arena

Denmark vs Australia – 21st June, Samara Arena

Australia vs Peru  – 26th June, Fisht Stadium

One to watch – Tim Cahill

Yes, he is still around. In fact, did you know that he is back at Millwall these days? Us neither! The 38 years old former Everton man has enjoyed some great days leading the Socceroos, most notably in 2006 when he became the first player to ever score a World Cup goal for Australia.

With over 50 international goals to his name, he remains their main goal threat. If Australia is serious about qualification from Group C, then Cahill will need to step up.

Reasons to worry – Unconvincing qualification

Australia made hard work of Syria in the playoff win. Needing extra time for a game that should have been wrapped up in 90 minutes. Three much better performances will be needed in a very tough group.

FMF’s prediction

Knocked out at the group stage.
